| Concerto Op. 30 in A Major, by Mauro Giuliani |
|
Over the past few months our attention has been focused on the completion of a project we started a while back: a new edition of the famous Concerto Op. 30 in A Major, by Mauro Giuliani. The piece was premiered to great success in Vienna, in 1808. It propelled Giuliani, still a young man, into the elite among musicians —certainly among guitarists— of the time.
Having used that piece in performance, we were aware of the costs of renting the score and parts available from the traditional publishing firms. We decided to go on with the project of preparing a new edition that would include the orchestral score, the instrumental parts and the solo part. While there are several different versions of the piece, we based our edition on the version for guitar and strings that best adheres to the Viennese Classic ideal of formal structure, and offers the most easily accessible orchestral environs.
After producing a carefully edited orchestral score and parts for the piece, it was decided to produce a piano reduction of the score —an arrangement that would be useful to students and professionals that may learn and perform the piece without the benefit of an orchestra.
We are offering the piece in three separate packages: the orchestral score and parts, the solo guitar part and the guitar/piano and solo guitar edition. We are very happy with our results, think it is a very good value and hope that guitarists everywhere will find it useful.
